Abhignya Mallepalli
President
Welcome to Students for Healthcare Equality! I’m Abhignya, and I’m a senior Neuroscience, Nonfiction English Writing, and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies triple major from Texas. I am extremely passionate about women’s and LGBTQIA+ healthcare with a particular interest in medically underserved communities. I hope S.H.E. will help students discover how to view healthcare from more comprehensive and inclusive perspectives, something that is crucial for effective healthcare practices. If you have any questions on how to become involved in intersectional healthcare, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to working with y’all!

Joie Zabec
Vice President
Hi everybody! My name is Joie Zabec and I’m a senior Neuroscience and Psychology double major. I was an EMT for two years and I volunteer at Foxwall EMS in Aspinwall. I did research in the Pathology department of Children’s Hospital. I first took Feminist Theory my sophomore year and it sparked my interest in not only gender studies, but public policy. I am currently doing an internship at Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR). Next year I plan to do a masters in bioethics at the University of Pittsburgh. Fun fact, I have a pug named Rosie. Feel free to contact with me with any questions! [email protected]

Hi everybody! I'm Alex. I'm a senior psychology major from the Pittsburgh area. I love volunteering at Children's Hospital and playing with my two fluffy bunnies back home. I also work as a care attendant at Mercy Hospital. I hope we can make the first semester of Pitt S.H.E. a fun and educational experience! Help us get one step closer to a society in which everyone gets a high standard of care, no matter our differences:) Contact me: [email protected]

Emma Frank
Communications Manager
Hi, I’m Emma Frank! I’m a Pre-Dental student studying Biological Sciences with minors in Chemistry, Studio Arts and Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies. I am also a Research Assistant at the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics, and I volunteer as often as possible with organizations that provide dental care to those in need in the Pittsburgh-area. I became involved with SfHE because after attending the Women’s March on Pittsburgh with my mom, I realized my passion for fighting for comprehensive healthcare, especially for women and those with financial needs. I also love playing with my dog (Francesca), going out with my boyfriend, Dustin, and finding new and exciting things to do around Pittsburgh! I’d love to talk to you, so if you have any questions about SfHE (or about me) feel free to email me at [email protected]!

Navi Baskar
Volunteer Coordinator
Hey guys! I’m Navi Baskar, and I’m a junior Neuroscience major. I volunteer at UPMC Shadyside and conduct research on Cancer Virology in the Hillman Cancer Center. I’m from a town 30 minutes west of Cleveland called Avon. I hope to help spread Pitt S.H.E’s message all around campus and even further, until eventually inequality in the healthcare professions becomes a relic of the past. Contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions!

Brinda Vaidya
Secretary
My name is Brinda Vaidya and I am a current sophomore majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology with a minor in creative writing. I volunteer in the Cognitive-Affective Neuroscience and Development Lab at Pitt in the Department of Psychology. I’m from the small state of Delaware, where a lot of my experiences in volunteering in different hospitals and other healthcare institutions inspired me to explore the disparities in healthcare provided to different minority groups and advocate for equality on a college campus, where youths are easy to reach and my voice can be heard. I love to read and write in my free time and enjoy finding cool new articles about women in healthcare! If you have any questions about SfHE or opportunities to get involved at Pitt, email me at [email protected]!

Natalie Kilbride
Junior Representative
Hi! My name is Natalie Kilbride and I’m a junior Pre-Physician Assistant Psychology major. I am passionate about mental health awareness and promotion. I volunteer at Norristown State Hospital and work at Western Psychiatric Hospital. I have always been involved in advocating for healthcare and necessary social services since I was a teen, spending time in Kenya assisting my father in projects to uplift street children, and volunteering in ESL programs and daycare. These positions, as well as SfHE initiatives have only strengthened and reinforced my passion to promote intersectional care.

Rachel Guarinoni
Sophomore Representative
Hello, I’m Rachel. I’m a sophomore majoring in Biology with Chemistry and Neuroscience minors and a certificate in the conceptual foundations of medicine. I participate in research at Children’s Hospital in the pathology department. Freshman year I took a gender studies writing course and a philosophy course in medical ethics, not really knowing what would come from them. Now, I am hooked on learning more about the intersections of gender and medicine and searching for the best ways to combat these healthcare disparities! Contact: [email protected]

Jenna Doty
Freshman Representative
Hello! My name is Jenna Doty and I'm a freshman Biology major with hopes of becoming a physician's assistant. I'm from a small town about 45 minutes from the Pittsburgh area. I've been highly interested in the sciences for a really long time and I have always felt like it's important to connect what I'm studying to the real world. That's why I decided to get involved in SfHE club! It's a great club with awesome board members that are dedicated to the advancement of social justice within the medical field (and the real world as well). If you have any questions contact me at [email protected].
